After the beautiful Autumn we are really paying for it now with monsoon/hurricane like weather. Fortunately the cottages are on high ground so the floods don’t effect us at home, but on Saturday night I couldn’t get home due to the road at Bandon being impassable due to Storm Desmond. The Coastal Route was an alternative, but with the roads so wet and high winds that didn’t seem like a sensible option. We headed back to Cork City and tried to find a room for the night in a hotel, but the hotels were all full of weary commuters. It was reminiscent of the Christmas Story – no room at the Inn. Instead we had to face the high winds on the motorway, reassured by the festive music on the Xmas radio station, and head back to our friends house in Fermoy, who kindly put up ourselves and the two dogs.
